John Robb has reformed the innovative and influential Membranes.

Wednesday, February 12, 2014 - PUNX.UK

The band are playing several festivals and are working on a new album.

Membranes Projects
1. The Universe Explained gigs where we get scientists from the Higgs Boson project to do in conversations, we show films and art installations and play a Membranes set at the end. These have gone really well so far and we have two lined up at the moment - one at the Royal Festival Hall in London and one at Glasgow Art Gallery.

2. Membranes are recording a double album loosely based on the universe- the music will for from noise to dark atmospheric tracks that incorporate orchestras and choirs. Clint Mansell will be missing some of the tracks and Alexander Hacke from Einsturzende Neubaten is interested in mixing a couple of tracks as well- a couple of the tracks will be recorded in interesting locations outside the studio…one is a famous astronomy location - the other a well known tourist landmark. The album is about the universe and contemporary culture and politics at the same time.

3. Membranes are playing several festivals but looking for more festival dates around the world.

4. The band currently features ex Fall member Steve Hanley on bass

5. Membranes are being filmed for a documentary about the band, its unique and influential history and the universe project- it will feature top scientists talking about the universe and Higgs Boson, music, and key musicians talking about the influence of the band and its history and also will document the UK noise underground of the 80s that the Membranes were pioneers of.

6. John Robb is releasing a book of his journalism this year…500 interviews tracing punk rock and its fallout…he is also doing spoken word and academic events which can be incorporated into the Membranes gigs and events.
