Skurvi - More Punk Than You E.P Review

Tuesday, October 1, 2013 - Andrew Camac

More Punk Than You! is a bold statement made by the lads at Skurvi, time will tell if this is true or just complete bollocks.

I have had the pleasure of seeing and meeting these lads earlier in the year and they had to be one of the best bands iv seen live. I went along with my brother in law who doesn't really follow punk and he was really impressed with these and is quite the fan nowadays!.

After the strength of the live performance I made my way to the merch stand and bought myself this E.P. So there is the back story here is the review

Brits on Holiday - introduction wanting British beer like Stella 😉 then the song starts off with a tasty little bass riff. What you have then is a beer fuelled sing along very street punk vibe on this one. Catchy as f**k chorus brilliant speed and tight backing track as well. Do have applaud the lads for having Kavos and Slagos in there brought a smile to my face with every listen.

State of mind - slow introduction for this before they smash it apart with a nice ska punk sounding track. This track sounds completely different from the other two and works really well if I'm to be honest. What Skurvi seem to have done here is created a ska punk sound with an Oi chorus and it works so well!. I would have to say out of them all i have to credit this track with being the best purely because it just stands out compared to the other two tracks

More Punk Than You - final track and it's the feature track here, lovely British street punk/Oi anthem here. Some fantastic guitar work on this one, the chorus is guaranteed to be rattling around in your mind for weeks. Shortest track on the album but stands out amazingly, Skurvi have a hit with this one it's outstanding live and is just as good recorded.

The problem I have with this release is that it's over far too quickly. That's the problem with E.P's when you have a quality one you always wish it lasted that little bit longer. In this case I am more than ready for more Skurvi (I believe there is a split E.P with Emergency Bitter which has recently been released). I say this as a fan of the band and the E.P buy this release, it's outstanding and an investment in Skurvi's future. Given time, few more releases these are going to be huge, they have an amazing stage presence and have this release under their belt I'd say we are looking at a very Skurvi fuelled future!.
